Not a Promise; an Invitation

Very familiar words from Jesus:

I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

Luke 11:9

It’s easy to read this like a promise, almost like the genie in the bottle. “Whatever we want, we can get.” That’s not what Jesus is saying. He’s actually offering something even better than a promise; He’s offering an invitation!

The God of the universe invites us to connect with Him! Let that sink in.

  • If you’ve got a casual request, ASK . . .
  • If you’re in a fog, trying to find your way, SEEK . . .
  • If the door ahead is closed, KNOCK . . .

No matter the level of your concern or the intensity of your request, God invites you into His presence. He wants to hear from you and be with you. He doesn’t promise to give you everything you ask for (no good father would do that). Instead, He promises something better, His presence!
