Updates from Africa

Brought to you live from Kenya!

Hello Everyone! I am alive and having a wonderful time here in Tumutumu, Kenya. The trip has been incredible thus far, and somehow we only have two days left.

I’ll highlight a few things below.

Sunday went well, but not as expected. I didn’t get to preach, save for a five-minute distilled version due to time constraints. Instead, me and two female teammates were voluntold to sing, and we gave an a capella rendition of Great Is Thy Faithfulness. Soo…that went well. We were relieved to know none of our team would see it…until we then learned it was recorded.

The next day, as a devotional with the team and the group of Kenyans we were serving, I got to expand a bit and share a little more — a nice consolation.

Another day we visited a family in Tumutumu to learn about “a day in the life” of one of the community members. In our case, it was an elderly farmer named Pauline. The level of welcome, love, and hospitality challenges our culture’s, and we are found wanting.

Today we visited a school for the whole day, the school where 410 utilizes and promotes student sponsorships, and it was quite amazing. The kids were fascinated by the strange group of muzungus (spell check), these white people walking around. They were spellbound by the redhead in our group, and played with all the girls’ hair.  Lacking the option with me, they kept rubbing my arm. I shook about 4,000 hands today, which is odd considering there are 485 students at the school.

Lastly, I got to meet Ruby, a middle school girl sponsored by Kevin and Teri (my in-laws). I got to give her a hand-written note from them, read it to her, and share an emotional hug. It was a beautiful moment.

Thanks for your continued prayers, I need them. Miss you all, and love you.

God is very good, and our Jesus is alive.
